Japanese whooha!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Hikage @ 5:15 pm

I just wanted to blog about how nice my Japanese teachers are. I was so worried about going back to class, because I’d missed 3 days and after two they start dropping your grade.

So, I went to class, got there late, bombed the test, had no one to partner with on the in class activities and generally felt like crap the whole time. Being me I booked out of the room, but got stuck taking five minutes to walk up this itsy bitsy hill outside the building. I was almost to the top when I heard a voice calling my last name + san. I was quite surprised to find my TA and the other TA that sits in on our lectures there asking if there was anything they could do to help, and asking what had happened. My TA even told me she wouldn’t be upset at all if I skip class tomorrow, and that my teacher had told her I was out of class because I’d been hurt.

Right as they were leaving, my teacher came up to me and started asking how I was and before I knew it, we’d made a study appointment for today. It was 12:45 then, we made the appointment for 4:00. I was very surprised.

So at 4 we had our meeting. She went over everything I needed to know, and even wrote the notes out for me herself. We finished up, and she walked all the way to my dorm building with me, and held all the doors open. And believe me, with a broken leg bone, it took a long time to get up the hill. Once we were there, she said if we need to make another study appointment, she’d be willing to meet right outside my building so I wouldn’t have to walk as far.

Was that not very nice of all of them, or what?

Brr. It’s chilly.

Mum’s in for surgery today, getting her thyroid out. I’m a bit worried, but not as much as I should be, all considered. Mum gets a major illness every year like clockwork, and something that require surgery every three or so, I think. But they don’t really know what’s up with her thyroid, because by the time they gave her tests they wanted it out anyway, so it might be cancerous. But Mum said it’s one of the best places to have cancer, because it’s slow and easy to fight back. So I’m not as worried as I should be.

‘M taking my little sister out for sushi tonight. Dunno how much we can afford; I only have $30, and there’s tax to consider. But it’ll be fun, and I haven’t spent much time with her lately. And it’s just the two of us in the house, yanno? Neechan’s at college, I avoid my brother like the plague, the parents are, well, parents… Sigh. Today is cold and miserable and has a general miasma of ickyness.

But I have my lovely cello. Mmm, how I love my cello. I think I’ll go play it now.

Small announcement

Just a small announcement for those of you who don’t know yet. My site has been updated. As of this morning, I do believe. So, go and enjoy yourselves. Some feedback would be really nice.

Cello!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lisette @ 6:30 pm

Yes yes, second entry of the day, spamming my own blog, I know. But I got a cello! The replacement for the one that the shop disappeared, but it’s more like.. One hell of an upgrade. I’m in love. I have never seen a cello so beautiful. *strokes the cello* And it’s got precision tuning pegs, which is WONDERFUL because the last few times I tried to tune with regular pegs I broke the string. (I’m no longer allowed to tune other people’s instruments unless I’m using the fine-tuner. Whoops.) And it’s lovely and dark and the TONE! Oh, the tone! This cello sings.

And they included a new bow, which is more expensive than… than… me. It’s a lovely Coda, silver-wrapped, with the Mother-of-Pearl inlay on the frog and the nub at the end. The horsehair is so pure and white and lovely and oh, it’s wonderful. I love it. So much.

And I have decided that this cello is so cool, he will be named Raziel. Perfect. It is fitting. Oh, the dark stain and the smooth finish and the lovely shaded neck…

And I think Snape smells like Earl Grey, assorted herbs and animal skins, and the distinct scent of cold dungeon stone. (Last year I began assessing what the various HP characters smell like. I had Sirius nearly figured out, but I think I lost the sheet it was written on. Damnit.)

A Most Disquieting Tea

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lisette @ 3:27 pm

*sips tea* Hmm. So this is what Earl Grey tastes like. I think I see what the fuss is. And it’s damn fine quality, even I can tell that. (Says the girl who assigned various brand of green tea different names because they each fit a particular mood and no other.) Earl Grey makes me think of Snape. Doesn’t help that last night I dreamed I was in love with (Gawd, I can’t say his name!) Lord Voldemort. *shiver* And now I want to write a fic that shows the more loveable/human side of him. He wasn’t always a snake, yanno.

That said, I wonder what Darjeeling tastes like. Hmm. And remind me to pick up Japanese green tea at the Asian Mart next time, not this Chinese stuff. It’s alright, but I like the Japanese better. I think. I haven’t had the money or opportunity to buy many different kinds that are non-American.

I’m supposed to get my cello tonight! I’m so happy! I can audition and keep my place in the orchestra and show them how it’s REALLY done! XD Naw, I still suck. But I’m better than most of the other cellists. (Dunno about Beth. She’s a damn fine cellist, but she’s a bit softspoken. Dunno how she’d do as section leader. Not that I’m much better, but I can give out death threats and mean them. ^_^ ) So, that’s my life story. Mm, tea and classical music. I feel more refined already.

Well.

I have several conflicting urges at the moment; to make a new layout with the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children art; to make a new layout that’s lj-styled (I like their avatar system); and to write drabble, HP or FF8 or my own crack!Braska. And to make a music vid, but that’s relatively impossible. Technically I should finish the KusoKowai.net stuff, since it’s so damn close to being finished, and then send it off to Shan-san. So I’ll do that instead of the fun stuff.

Sigh. But it is, as I said, nearly done, so there may be a site update from me soon. Which is good, because it’s been about a year since my last update.

Geo: Using Babelfish helps me find where to go to read the stuff I want to, and then I read it in straight Japanese, which is the exact opposite of the system I use for the German sites. With those, I read the German to find where to go, and if it looks like it’s something new I stick it in Babelfish for specifics. But scanning Japanese is very difficult for me. I’m used to wading through it over a long period of time. (A solid paragraph takes me five minutes, and there’s no guarantee I understand more than five words.) But hey, with all of us together checking various language news sites, we’re picking up a heck of a lot of news! XD We’re so obsessed.

Take Free Enneagram Test

Yanno, I’ve wanted to take this test for a terribly long time, and I have no idea what it means. How absurd.

I seem to be giving in to the drabble meme. It works well for me, because most of my fic ideas are just images, flashes of color and light and taste and texture. And I can base a whole drabble off of one of those, instead of trying to build a fic around it. And the reason I mention all this? I’m currently working on a Weasley twins drabble. So, to date, I have written one and a half FF8 drabbles, two FF7 drabbles, and half a Weasley drabble. And I would toss Circle of Nine in there, but it had so much time and effort put in it I have to call it a fic. And I have completely forgotten where I was going with this.

Square-Enix is at the Tokyo Game Show, and is apparently dribbling out information about FF7-2. The topic for it on the forum is ever-growing.

Advent Children

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lisette @ 2:46 pm

Everyone go give Neechan hugs (entry below this)! She broke her leg. ;_; *huggles Neechan*

First off, I am amazed by the people who are violently opposed to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Think about it from Square-Enix’s point of view. The fans want more FFVII. They call for a remake, but what would that be? Fresh graphics, maybe a little improvement on the battle system, translations, and little things like that. Who would that appeal to? Only the hardcore fans and the graphics whores. It would not be worth the production money. Alright, so maybe a sequel game? After the hubub about FFX2, I doubt it. The movie is the best choice. It gives the fans the fresh graphics they yearn for, the emotional conclusion the game didn’t give them, without the bother of designing a whole new game. It makes the most sense.

That said, DAMN is Cloud hot. Oh, yes. My little sister thought he was a cosplayer, and I was like, “No, that’s computer-generated.” She started squealing. ^.^ I have trained her well.

And now I have a FFVII drabble for you. Nibelheim flashback, spoilers about Cloud’s identity.

I suppose people might be wondering why I suddenly stopped blogging. ^_^;; Okay, this is me, so maybe people aren’t. Oh well.

I sent off the stuff for the update for the 28th last night, so the update should be on time. For those of you who don’t have callenders, the 28th is Sunday. Oh holly day! Anyway, there isn’t much, just a bunch of fanart, chapter 9 of SWs and the prologue of a new story Elise and I have been working on. I really did try to finish Tomena, but I broke the smaller bone in my right leg right above the ankle, and I’ve been a little too distracted by pain to force Tomena to focus. And let me tell you, having a broken leg/ankle thingy when you live on the fourth floor of a dorm is not fun.

There have been some pretty interesting typos in this entry… Maybe I should have left them all instead of just some.

Anyway, people, if you like my writing, please come visit the forum! We need more people to talk. We really do discuss interesting things! My section is down near the bottom of the page. Visit!
