OKAY FINE. I'll turn it on at the beginning of June. I am sure there is stuff that needs punching, and conveniently enough Vyaavi is pretty good at that punching thing.

Hahahaha I'll be looking forward to it! PLD is almost 75... Then it's time to level every sub to 49 :( Might go higher on WAR, as I want some DD up there. Taking WHM up on Ruun; thinking about BLM or SCH as well. Of course, this is long-term plans.

Installation is turning out to be an awesome song-and-dance involving unknown errors, corrupt folders, and POL not existing. Sigh. I actually bought a new copy with all the expansions because dude, it was $15 and a million times easier than using discs that were printed five years ago, but the installation is really. Really. Really pissing me off. Also scaring me - the last time I had corruption issues on this computer I had to reinstall Windows, which somehow magically cut my battery life in half despite all my fiddling to get it to the most energy-efficient settings.

Which version of Windows? D: Did a full uninstall on the old version before trying the new discs? Or does it work now?

Still not working but for new reasons. Vista (shush, I know, the hardware is locked and I can't install any other OS) and it's been formatted since the last time FFXI was on it. The corruption/unknown error issue got worked out, so now I'm dealing with errors in the actual install. I got this from Direct2Drive and I think maybe it's unzipping wrong? The POL setup file is... broken somehow. Which makes everything else go AUUUUUGH as it yells at me for not having POL installed. THANKS I NOTICED. I have a few things I can try to make it work, but not tonight. :\

Kota says you have to have the right version of POL for it to work on Vista.

Maybe I can install POL off the old discs and then use the new thing for everything else? *hopeful* I shall try that, it sounds relatively painless~ And I know the old one actually worked, so.

Fresh install, download Vista POL from SE before you run it, then it should be okay. I'd still recommend the newer discs so you avoid patching hell (to an extent).

Sooooo that worked, but somehow POL managed to update itself wrong and now it won't start up and I don't know what to do other than uninstall everything and try again. The error message tells me to restart POL but, uh, it won't start at all, dudes. That is the problem.
Failed to replace the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\polhook.dll." Please restart the PlayOnline viewer.
Any ideas on what to do next?

Abyysea parties are absolutely sick. One should not be able to level from 75 to 80 in a night.
