Someone recommended it to me after I bitched about GRRM being fat. I guess I need it now!

I think you do! I would put this series on a level with ASoIaF. Same cynicism, and brutality, and awesome characters. The writing is a little less confident and a little more purple, but where it counts his pacing is positively brilliant.

Re-reading RTK again, my college tutor actually expressed interest since the publisher was to his liking, I'm yet to know if he's started it yet though.
