Topic: Star Trek 2009

Star Trek XI, Star Trek Reboot, Star Trek 2009 - whatever you call it, IT WAS AWESOME. Suddenly everyone is watching the original series or talking about those GQ muthas or singing about how they're on a ship, yeah. So let's talk about this movie. Remember your spoiler tags! If your whole post is spoilers, your whole post better be in spoiler tags.

I adored it! It only made me cry in the very beginning. And, you know, the very end, when Nemoy does the whole "these are the voyages" thing but that always makes me cry. I do still have some questions, but I think watching it a second time would clear them up, like whether Gaila (the green cadet) survived.

Okay best parts: Chekov running for the transporter room yelling I CAN DO THIS I CAN DO THIS was the CUTEST THING EVER OMG I WANT TO PET HIM. Also everything that had anything to do with McCoy. Or Kirk. Damn that is one fine Captain-to-be. Unf. I will admit McCoy had some unfortunate facial expressions though. I really, really loved when Kirk was being all allergic and McCoy was like I CAN FIX THAT and jabbed him with yet another needle because admit it, that was hilarious. :D

This movie just makes me want to spam macros and animated gifs. WITH LOVE.

Re: Star Trek 2009

Yeah, I've seen it twice. Movie's fucking awesome and I recommend it to anyone. I took my grandmother, a hardcore trekkie, and she adored it.

Chekov was hilarious, but where's the love for Scotty (of the Dead)?

Also the green cadet survived, she was in the audience at the end when Kirk's getting honored.

How she does it is a conundrum wrapped in an enigma-stuffed mystery. Or, y'know, a mystendrum.

Re: Star Trek 2009

Scotty was freaking awesome, but I had a hard time unseeing the actor, you know? Also he totes got showed up by his sidekick. On the other hand WHO ELSE GETS A SIDEKICK? NOBODY. Scotty is just that cool.

Re: Star Trek 2009

Agreed with lisette on the sidekick. The side kick was the cutest thing ever.

I also really enjoyed the original Spock making an appearance. I squealed.

Re: Star Trek 2009

Me too, Piku! XD I really liked how they dealt with the movie-verse being an alternate universe, I really think it gives it space to grow without stepping on the original series' toes. It could have very easily turned into "Star Trek remake with YOUNG HIP KIDS" and I think they mostly avoided that. Having Nimoy (okay this isn't really a spoiler, he's in the trailers, whatevs) show up and basically hand it off to the new generation was AWESOME. His whole scene with the young Spock can be read that way, really - I was so into the movie at that point that I didn't even realize the subtext, ahaha, I was just like YES THERE IS SPOCK AND THERE IS SPOCK, THEY ARE BOTH SPOCK. Oh god and the whole mindmeld scene? Am I the only one who noticed that Kirk just kinda instantly accepted the concept of them both being Spock? Like, not old Spock and young Spock, just - Spock. He kept saying "you" to refer to either one of them. I loved that.

Also Pike is one badass dude. I mean not only did he whip out Kirk's stolen Romulan gun and shoot a dude WHILE HE WAS PARALYZED AND BEING RESCUED, he also went straight from Kirk's court-martial to promoting the kid to First Officer. THAT TAKES SOME BALLS, DUDE. Oh yeah and he cleared out a bar in like three minutes just so he could recruit the kid. I hereby nominate Pike as Most Badass Spotlight-Stealing Dude.

Re: Star Trek 2009

I thought the SAME thing about him shooting down the other guy while laying on the table, paralyzed. I basically have to agree with you in that he is HARDCORE.

Re: Star Trek 2009

I have an animated gif of that scene. XD It's just so badass! Okay so at the end when Spock was driving his ship into the Narada and Kirk was rescuing Pike, am I the only one that noticed that Spock ALMOST DIED. Like Kirk was all hanging out or whatever, his situation was urgent but not dire, but HE was the one that made the call to be beamed up. Spock was like HALF A SECOND FROM DEATH and didn't make the call. Yikes.

Re: Star Trek 2009

I know! And basically no one seemed to care at all. XD

I seriously loved Spock in the TV show. But this movie made me love him more.

Re: Star Trek 2009

I came having seen only the original teaser with the Enterprise construction. I simply enjoyed it.

While I love the new enterprise actor/crew, it is my personal opinion that Eric Bana as the badguy was the centerpiece of the movie. I first thought it was Amaury Nolasco playing as the antagonist, but at the very end I realized who he was. Bana failed as Bruce Banner/Hulk but as the villian he was just badass looking. He should stay as a tattooed Romulan Nero.

Re: Star Trek 2009

Eric Bana did a fantastic job! Most Star Trek villians are, at best, cheesy. Nero seemed to have a true psychotic bend.

Hulk 2008 not-quite spoilers Jesus christ Edward Norton was AWESOME in that movie.
