shan likely saw this topic coming.

So I've been really into this show lately. Jeff posted a topic ages past on the old forum, and while I didn't immediately act, it stuck in my mind (since Jeff is a man of impeccable taste). After watching a few DVRed episodes of season 7, my torrented season 1 is quite... a contrast. Adrian Monk is the same character for the most part, yet the show is SO different. It's honestly a treat. I'd recommend Monk to anyone who can follow a plot for an entire episode without having constant reminders of what's going on, as the murder mystery aspect is at least 25, closer to 50% of the appeal.

Best thing thus far about watching season 1 for the first time: the police chief being young and ass-ish. Less respect, more brashness. Worst thing: Different assistant! Sure, I'd probably get sick of his season 7 assistant after THAT many episodes, but she's a more likeable character. Can someone spoil when she enters the show? Please? She's much easier on the eyes, too. >.>

Monk omg <3 I watch this with my parents sometimes. I actually prefer Sharona a bit over Natalie, who shows up in season 3 I think. Natalie comes off a bit too forceful -- but I'll admit she's much prettier. Monk's actor is pretty amazing, he gets just the right balance between sympathetic sweetness and irritating self-centeredness. His character is the reason why I love the show.

After one episode, Sharona annoys me. sorry. XD Also (I think I mentioned this to shan) Monk's character is what drives the show. And that's a good thing. 'cause he's a producer.

hikage loves the show!! I am a devoted follower. Heheheh. Oh man, yeah, I sympathized with Sharona, but she wasn't the right assistant for Monk, she let everything get to her too much, I think. I absolutely adore Natalie, though I have no idea how she does her job. XP;;;; Oh man, Monk is so great, and even though he's the same, he does develope a lot throughout the show, he's always being challenged, and he is better about everything in the seventh season than he was in the first.

No kidding. In season 1 you can see why he was kicked off the force. In 7 he seems to have much more manageable issues. It'll be fun to watch the progression :D

Sharona has grown on me very much, it turns out. There's something really satisfying about this show, and I think it's instant gratification. It opens a lot of questions and closes them all in the 42ish minutes it runs (unless it's a multipart episode).

EDIT: Hahahaha the Captain's useless assistant actually did something for a change! Should have finished the episode before posting...
