Topic: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

Tonight I was gonna go study and I had trouble deciding what movie to play in the background - Live Free Or Die Hard, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, or Transformers. See, I've watched them all so often that I don't feel the need to pay attention to them to enjoy them. And then I realized that as far as movie tastes go, I am a total guy - but my whole family is into chick flicks. So now I'm curious! What are you guys into, chick flicks or guy movies? Or do you try to buck the labels and go arthouse or something?

I have pretty simple tastes: if it has explosions, gunfights, no zombies, and no love story (or at least nothing more complicated than Guy Gets Girl At End Of Movie), I am pretty much guaranteed to love it. On the other hand, a hot guy can get me to watch a movie I'm unsure of: I'm going to make sure to catch Watchmen because JDM is in it. Mmmm. He is fine. I was so sad when he wasn't on Supernatural anymore, but then I got distracted by Jensen's abs.

ANYWAY tell me what kind of movies you like. :D We should like, schedule a movie night for the forum where we all watch the same movie at the same time and talk in AIM chat about it while we watch. IT SOUNDS FUN IN MY HEAD OKAY

Got questions, concerns, zombies at your door? Send me a message! I don't bite... unless you're marinated.

Re: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

I am pretty into fantasy and/or action movies. I also enjoy the occasional B movie (Kull the Conquerer, Army of Darkness).
I don't mind some psychological thrillers and some horror movies, but I definitely prefer action over them. I also really enjoy good comedies, but not gross ones. For example, I liked a lot of Jim Carrey's older comedies, but I don't like recent stuff like Superbad or most of Will Farrell's stuff. So, yeah, my likes are sort of all over the place. >_>

Re: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

Horror movies are lame. I'm pretty judgemental of whether I'll see a movie based on who's in it. (glad for that, edward norton was awesome in the hulk)

How she does it is a conundrum wrapped in an enigma-stuffed mystery. Or, y'know, a mystendrum.

Re: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

I'll watch anything but popcorny romantic comedies.  I admit that an equivalent action movie is every bit as predictable but there's a large chance the annoying character will get knifed by act two.  I just can't stand, "Guy bumps into girl(it literally happens with a bump 9 times out of ten)" they have X amount of time either annoyed with each other or engaged with other spouses.  There's a fight.  There's a montage.  There's a dramatic entry into a formal event where <guy> sweeps <girl> away to live happily ever after.  All with the character depth of "She's clumsy!"  "He was no fun in college!"

I did genuinely enjoy Love, Actually, though.  I think that counts for my part of "Everyone's a little gay"

Horror I enjoyif it's the classic definition of "Something that shocks the human psyche in such a way that it heightens the awareness and allows to glimpse the sublime."  Whereas most modern horror can actually be described as terror which "Subdues and paralyzes the mind by means of excessive violence."  If it's cool, larger than life, and not over explained or too annoyingly violent it's cool. I do, however, find some corny B stuff amusing(I'm a member of the Randy the Ice Cream Guy fanclub)

The other "guy" movie type I hate are the non-Guy Ritchie type movies that Jason Statham has done.  I thought the first Transporter was okay while the sequels made me want to burn the place down.

Re: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

I like alot. But alot of action films actually bore me.

Actually, I like 50% of each genre. I can't really decide on a favourite.

One movie I love and am ashamed to admit, though, is "The Perfect Man", with Hilary Duff. SO CUTE. XD

Re: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

Hey, this is a good question. I do like watching stuff blow up, that's always fun, right? Hmm, I like a lot of British and black comedy, and I like love stories, but generally only when they are classic movies, or you know...epic star-crossed things, not today's romantic comedy. Modern day chick flicks, for the most part, annoy the hell out of me.

There are some actors I'll follow no matter what the genre is, like David Strathairn (anybody ever seen 'Eight Men Out' or 'Matewan'??) and Dean Stockwell. I really like gangster and cop/detective/crime movies. You know, like 'The Untouchables', 'Heat', 'Compulsion', 'The Maltese Falcon', etc. And Hitchcock :D Love Hitchcock. I want to say superhero movies as well, but really, the fact of the matter is that I'm a complete whore for Batman and those related, and not so much for the others XP

How about foreign films? You guys into anything like that? I saw this ridiculously awful Japanese movie once called 'Casshern'. Oh man. So bad. But in kind of a hilarious way. Not that I would ever force myself to watch it again, but you know. I also watch some Bollywood, admittedly XP Maybe this is drawing away from the main point, though? I'm not sure if foreign films can be divided into guy and chick tastes XD;; If you are going to ever watch a foreign movie, though, watch Fritz Lang's 'M', which is fucking intense and absolutely brilliant, and 'Life Is Beautiful', which is equally brilliant and really fantastic.

Okay so to answer the original question, I have no idea. Guy movies mostly, I guess? But I'm such a girl, and watch many things to see hot men (what! AND the plot, usually XD) so who knows!

Re: Chick Flick or Guy Movie?

I really only watch those Chinese Kung Fu movies with subtitles. The translation overtop is terrible, so I stick to original language.
