Topic: Song Associations

Do you have a theme song that plays in your head when you walk down the street? Is there one song you associate strongly with something random? Tell me about it. Yesss.

I just heard a song (which Google tells me is Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape but I know as The Whoo-Hoo Song) and the moment I heard it I could smell hot iron shavings. It played on the radio almost non-stop when I was working in the Drills department, drilling holes into cast iron. I had no idea the association was that strong, though.

Whenever I hear Mariah Carey I think of Animorphs. Don't ask. Please don't.

I would like to know if YOU have a theme song that plays in your head when you walk down the street? >D

Hmm. Well, I associate a lot of songs with characters. I associate one song with a guy who sucks and I never allow hikage to play it when I'm in her car XP;;

Well...when I listen to 'A Taste Of Honey' I can smell bones and books, haha, because I remember listening to it while pacing up and down the hall in the Anthro building at school while waiting for class to start. And whenever I hear Don McLean or Peter, Paul, And Mary I can picture the world outside of my dad's car window. Not actually able to see anything, really, but just that peering over the edge to see some trees kind of thing, while surrounded by the dark blue of the interior. Except 'Vincent'...then I can picture my dad's old house, with the huge coffee table book of Van Gogh's paintings, and the picture of Starry Starry Night up on the wall. :)

Can I please ask about Mariah Carey + Animorphs? Lol I reeeally want to XD

Re: Song Associations

I DO have songs that play in my head while I walk down the street. Ambling around the neighborhood used to be something I did on a daily basis, and I always brought music with me. Nowadays I don't walk as often, but I still hear the music when I do. Suemitsu & The Suemith's Bittersweet Irony is one song that leaps to mind.

And every single time I hear the name Linda, I have an overwhelming urge to sing: LINDA LINDAAAA, LINDA LINDA LINDAAAAAAAAAA. This gets awkward at work.

Re: Song Associations

For some reason I don't understand, anytime I'm walking down the hallways of my work, I start singing the Bear Necessities of Life from the jungle book. XP;; And also, a friend of mine when my pants would fall down would sing this piece of a song, I have no idea what song it is, I only know the line, and so now if my pants fall down I start singing it. It goes, "my pants are falling down, the world is spinning around~" I have various other work songs as well. XP;;

Come to the light side, we provide the milk. ^_~

Re: Song Associations

EVERYTIME I am at work, I want to sing Hakuna Matata. I guess it makes us all feel better that we have a miserable job. By us, I mean I get people to sing along. Sometimes we take on certain characters.

Fixed for me.

I was listening to Loveline and some members of System of a Down were guests. This was when I was helping Stephy and lisette defeat the Shadow Lord. So now SoaD reminds me of Castle Zvahl.

Re: Song Associations

Due to a really really fun night of drinking and smoking and gambling, my default walkin' around song is Float On by Modest Mouse.

It may be their worst song, but you try not doing a cartoon walk while that's on and you've had several drinks.

I skip it every time it's played on the radio or when I'm listening to that album, but lord am I glad they put the song in Rock Band 2. Perfect drunken song for the entire room to sing with.

Anytime I hear a song from Robyn I go back to playing Monopoly on my SNES back in the day. Nickelback's "Rockstar" reminds me of basic because it was the only song my whole platoon knew verbatim. We'd sing it just about every day too

Re: Song Associations

Don MacLeon makes me think of pine trees and loons on a lake. For a little while my family got to use someone's cabin on a northern lake, and it was just magical. I was, for some reason, really into folkyish music then, and I think I had a cassette tape of his music. American Pie makes me think of antique stores and Michigan, though.

Also, for reasons unknown, Holy Water by Oliver Haze makes me think of Final Fantasy 10 and Yuna in particular, and anything by Regina Spektor makes me think of Stargate Atlantis.

Cube by Gackt always makes me think of Final Fantasy 10, now that you mention the game. I see a very pretty music video in my head that I want to make XD

Annnnd, Break up! from Digimon makes me think of Star Ocean 2, though I can't justify that at all. Well, I guess just about everything makes me think about SO2...

Re: Song Associations

The cover of Don't Look Back In Anger by The Wurzels always makes me think of Sasuke from Naruto for some horrible, inexplicable reason. I mean, the song has goats in it or something, it's basically a hoe-down remix of an emo song, and so... it just makes no sense, except it totally does. To me. Somehow. Goats = Sasuke? I don't knowwww.

Terra's theme from FF6 is just pure joy. It reminds me of the simple joy of childhood.

Re: Song Associations

Finally, five years after I performed it, I can listen to Johan de Meji's Lord of the Rings Symphony. It is lovely, and we cellos had the melody a decent amount of time, and now it is somehow firmly associated with Star Trek. Except for the Shadowfax movement. It really is a lovely symphony.
