Topic: Supernatural

Yeah, I know it's a CW show, and the station is lame. But the show is pretty good!

The basic story follows two brothers: Sam and Dean Winchester. They travel around and fight demons, ghosts, and other unearthly creatures. As the story goes, the enemies become larger-scale, and they become wrapped up in some pretty big-time shit.
Yes, it has some typical CW angst, but it's an entertaining show with witty dialogue. And lots of blood. Very bloody. Don't watch it if you dislike blood and gore.
It's currently 4.5 seasons long, the 5th is currently airing. Steff bought a box set for 9.99 since it was on sale, and we were impressed and bought each following box set (having just finished Season 4 about a week or so ago). Anywho, long story short, check it out if you like ghost-hunting that isn't super lame like Ghost Hunters. The writers actually looked up some lore on creatures, so it's not some horribly inaccurate series. Oh, and the gag reels are pretty good, too.

I find it utterly hysterical that you're mentioning this show juuuust after I fell out of love with it. XD It is a fabulous show! I adore the first two seasons, and I honestly love Mr. Ackles' acting ability. But I watched it for the bromance and the saving people; as the plots got more grandiose (and more Christian, sigh) the number of people saved got bigger, but the connection with them became insignificant. So the parts that I liked about it were marginalized, and the Big Grand Stuff took over, and I fell out of love with it.

But I totally second the recommendation anyway - it is a great show. I laughed, I cried, I flinched, I wanted to pet the monsters, I bought the boxsets. And the blooper reels are often TOTALLY HILARIOUS.

OH MY FUCKING GOD I LOVE THAT VIDEO

Well, I think that later on, it became more about The saving of people became less personal, to help the viewer see that Sam's moral compass is becoming more and more off, and Dean never really gave a damn about killing people--look at all the possessed people he took out using the Colt.

Yeah, I enjoyed the first two seasons incredibly, but I still like everything I have watched so far. The story is just getting a little larger-than-life, but luckily I like Christian stuff (fighting demons is badass, I say!)

Re: Supernatural

I like the demon-fighting! It's the sudden-onset angels that annoy me. Also the shift from saving individual people from individual monsters, to saving the whole world from the Apocalypse, really got on my nerves. It's epic, sure - but it's impersonal, and since the whole story is about two brothers who live out of a car, it should be personal. I think I just came to the show enjoying different things than it meant for me to be enjoying. Also, seriously, can they keep a black guy alive or a woman not-evil for more than a third of an episode? :( Also, and I hate that I can keep coming up with things I despise about a show I love, but I really wish they would stop referencing/mocking fandom within the show. That's not cool.

Don't get me wrong, I adore Supernatural! Sam and Dean are the best brothers ever. I love when they bitch at each other and drive their sexy car around and blast classic rock and fight monsters and set things on fire and - man, those are the best parts. :D I also desperately love seeing them from the eyes of people totally uninvolved with monster-hunting and whatnot. I mean, you're living your life, and suddenly these dudes show up living out of a car, using fake names and fake credit cards, and they tell you your house is haunted and they need to beat up your poltergeist? CRAAAAZY. Ghostfacers was the best episode ever omg, I love how it was way more foul-mouthed than usual - like what we usually see is glossy network production, and that episode was realistic amateur film night. :D It made me ridiculously happy. Also I love seeing Dean get all big-brother protective over Sam. Actually I basically love seeing Dean do anything.

If you had to pick your favorite episodes, which would you choose?

Re: Supernatural

Oh man, I can't believe I forgot about this thread for so long! Steff and I finished up Season 5 a little while back. I have a feeling the series won't be going on, given what I've read. But it's been good from what I saw.

And if I could choose a favorite episode... Yeah, probably the Ghostfacers eps were some of the best for me. Though I liked a good portion of Season 4, so that would be kind of a tough call.
